Overview Materials Method

CWG practices an experimental form of choreographic research and artistic peer mentorship that centers on dancing, writing and dialogue around shared improvisational structures. We believe a discourse on dance can take place both through an engagement of moving together as well as a rigorous commitment to exploring the relationship between verbal language and kinesthetic experience. In the studio, CWG has developed structures for embodied research that interface dancing, writing and discussion in our process. We give them equal value and allow them to collide and influence each other. We experiment with a democratic format that builds collectivity and makes space for the highly diverse aesthetic views inspired by the participants' various backgrounds in post-modern dance, experimental theater, and inter-disciplinary creative practices.
"Wishing for a methodology that works with specificity but allows for diversity. It's when there is space for diversity that this group is at its best. [...] Capitalizing on the spectrum rather than finding agreement (on values, findings, etc.). Except for one thing: agreeing on a format. A format open and specific at once."
